Newsbits for 08-14-06

I was never much of a Star Trek guy, yet I still think it's pretty cool that all five Star Trek captains -- that's William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Scott Bakula, Avery Brooks, and Kate Mulgrew, in case you were unsure -- will lend their voices to Bethesda's upcoming Star Trek: Legacy game.

  • Gamespot interviews the research firm behind that Xbox and PS2 branding survey mentioned a week or two ago. They used the term "boys" but apparently were refering to males age 18 to 26?
  • Yoshi's Island 2 will feature wi fi multiplayer.
  • Rumors claim Silicon Knights is ditching Unreal Engine 3 for Too Human because it's too difficult to work with.
  • Yet other rumors claim Virgin Megastores in the UK will be receiving Wii countdown clocks starting today. You think Nintendo is going to let an in-store display break the news for them?
  • More anniversaries: Now it's Donkey Kong's 25th.
  • GameSetWatch has an interview with some bored young man who programmed a Zelda game on a TI-83+. (thanks Mike)
  • See how many mistakes you can spot in this awful Sonic statue.
  • We've hit a weird place: Coke has an ad based on GTA.
  • New details have emerged about Guitar Hero 2. Synced lighting excites me more than it really should.
  • A concerned PTA member raises important concerns about the proliferation of video games. Oh wait, this video is from 1985. Not the stationary stores!
  • Square reveals two new jobs to be added to the GBA remake of Final Fantasy V.
  • Finally, for no reason, we have Link made out of an egg.
