Newsbits for 08-23-06
Nintendo's Leipzig conference was a whole lot of nothing, with no date or price to be found. The only new information was the announcement of Mario Strikers Charged and a new Batallion Wars on the Wii. It should be illegal to call your presentation "Wii prove our promise" and then spend 45 minutes talking about the DS.
Before the conference, invitations were passed around for a September 14 event in New York City, hosted by Reggie. The logical place for a date and price on the Wii is now either this press conference, or the Tokyo Game Show a little later in September.
- New trailers abound: Konami's MGS4, Sega's Sonic and the Secret of the Rings, and Capcom's God Hand.
- Sega is porting Sonic Riders to the PC.

- Pop Cap Games like Zuma and Bejeweled are soon going to be sold over Steam.
- The virtual world continues to get weirder as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association sets up shop in Second Life.
- Microsoft will have next gen exclusivity for one year for Pro Evolution Soccer 6 and FIFA 07.
- The woman responsible for the "61% violent Pac-Man" study responds.
- Freebird becomes the latest Guitar Hero II track to be unveiled, featuring a fake southern accent to make you cringe and a solo to make you weep.
- Work is proceeding on a fan translation of Sega's Dreamcast fanservice explosion Segagaga. Since you're probably not aware of the game, read about it here.

I guess the key is to never get excited. I expected little and got little, so I'm not upset. It's a random conference in Germay... I just don't see that being the place where they'd unveil that info when they didn't at E3.
In any case, the two new games are interesting to me... largely because they are starting to make more references to online gaming for the system.
