Newspost for 01-26-07
Well, I suppose it was inevitable -- my 360 succombed to the dreaded Three Red Lights. At least it did it while it was still under the year warranty. So I'm going to be out a 360 for a couple weeks (or, more accurately, I'm going to be out a DVD and iPod player). But on the upside, the woman I talked to at Microsoft sounded like Mary Lynn Rajskub, so I could pretend Chloe O'Brian was doing my tech support.
Industry and multi-console news:
- Age of Conan, Two Worlds and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars have all been delayed.
- Bethesda says they are "several years" into the development of Fallout 3.
- There's a new trailer out for Unreal Tournament 3.
- IGN has seen footage of Uwe Boll's Postal, and they've posted impressions. Between Dave Foley being in this and Kevin MacDonald in Epic Movie, I'm going to go hug my Kids in the Hall DVDs and sob.
- A modder has overclocked a PC Engine to correct for slowdown in certain games.
- 1up has an article on Tose, a studio that secretly develops games for other companies. It seems like every few months there's a new article talking about this company that no one knows about.
PC news:
- A tiny, thumbnail image of Duke Nukem Forever has surfaced, with George Brussard claiming that it's an in-game shot (despite looking like FMV). Perhaps what he means is that DNF really will look like this, but only at 200x125.
- A number of Boston-era developers got together recently for the Boston Game Jam, where they created eight games in 36 hours. Some of the games are available for download at the link.
- Classic vehicular combat game Interstate 76 is hidden in GameTap's current catalog as an easter egg.
- Unlike Frets on Fire, Guitar Zero is a more direct (downright blatant) copy of Guitar Hero for the PC. Meaning it will probably get a cease and desist soon enough. [Edit: In fact, he's already taken it down.]
Nintendo news:
- A screenshot from the GBA port of Final Fantasy VI shows Doomgaze has been renamed to Deathgaze. This probably means we'll see other examples of Nintendo's SNES-era censorship taken out, such as Pearl being restored to its original name Holy.
- The Wii news channel has launched a day early.
- Hudson has hinted that there will be a seperate Wii channel in the future for downloading original games.
- New info and screens for Wing Island, Hudson's flight game that might as well be called The Game You Play While Waiting For A New Pilotwings. Or at least while waiting for Wii Sports: Airplane. Wing Island will be available in North America March 23.
- The Japanmanship blog names a few good Japanese games that never got an American release.
- Video: The Wii remote controlled robot. An industrial robot swinging around a sword is kind of frightening.
- This scan shows a few new screens of Harvest Moon on the Wii.
- The February Virtual Console line-up for Japan has been revealed, and includes Ocarina of Time.
- The first Wii modchip is on the way.
- A rare military training SNES game has found its way to Ebay. Unfortunately, it's missing the modified M-16 controller.
- Video: The 1,007 strong Mii Parade.
- This Ebay auction purports to be selling every NES game ever made.
Sony news:
- Beyond3D takes a close look at the PS3's hardware scaler.
- FutureShop and Best Buy have both bumped up the price of the PS3 in Canada. Some places are reporting this as "Sony's increasing the price!" but as you can see, Sony's own Canadian store still has the old $659.99 price. So does EB. I don't know what's going on with Future Shop or Best Buy.
- Ryan Payton has a new blog. He's an assistant producer at Kojima Productions, as well as the host of the Kojima Productions Report podcast.
- A cop in the UK was caught playing his PSP on duty. In the guy's defense, he was supposed to be guarding a wall.
Microsoft news:
- Forza 2 will be available this May.
- The Xbox Video Marketplace has been updated with new content.
- I Love Bees is back.
- Microsoft's entertainment division posted losses of $289 million for the quarter ending December 31, 2006. They've also cut their forecast of 13-15 million 360s sold by the end of the fiscal year down to 12 million.
- Microsoft is reassuring nervous gamers that all units in the initial shipment of Crackdown will have Halo 3 beta keys. They go on to call the initial shipment "pretty huge."
- Two videos feature Microsoft executives explaining 360 IPTV.
- New screenshots show the differences between the "enhanced" version of Double Dragon on Live Arcade versus the original. The enhancement looks like turning on Super Eagle in ZSNES.

The I Love Bees site you link to is exactly how the site has looked since Halo 2 came out. The countdown is counting down to the day in the future that Halo 2 begins, if I remember correctly.

I never got into the whole I Love Bees thing when it was new, so I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I'm going by what was said at places like GamersReports and Evil Avatar who reported on it being "back," although that may mean nothing more than it being in operation again.
In retrospect I should have linked to one of the explanatory articles rather than straight to ILoveBees.com, but.. eh.
