Industry and multi-console news:
- Jack Thompson is facing a disciplinary hearing for five counts of "professional misconduct," three of which relate directly to his anti-game cases. Kotaku has provided evidence of some of Jack's past.. issues.
- It appears as if Ziff Davis is asking too much for their games division.
- Majesco has received a "going concern" modification from an independent auditor, indicating that there is "substantial doubt" the company can continue to operate without additional funding.
- The next edition of Mortal Kombat will use Unreal Engine 3.
- Dan Aykroyd said in a recent interview that he will be doing voice work and motion capture for the Ghostbusters game next year. Unfortunately, this gives us no clue as to whether Zootfly's rights issues have cleared up, or whether the game may have a new developer.
- Next Generation debates some of the points made by DVD Empire in their "we're pulling out because game makers are too greedy" message.
- Video games are being used for physical therapy for a six year old girl with hemiplegic cerebral palsy.
- Gamasutra wonders if Nintendo can help revive the adventure game genre.
- The next-gen N-Gage is set to launch in September.
- This video is the first I've ever heard of Street Fighter: The Ride, but holy God is it awful.
- Racketboy looks at the best undiscovered Neo Geo games. Don't play Magical Drop III if you have other appointments you intend to get to in a timely manner.
- The Ultimate Console Database is, well, pretty much what it says it is. Over 600 consoles listed with photos and background information.
- Apparently Playboy's Miss May 1998 is a gamer, and can probably beat you in Madden.
- Call this a rumor for now, but one Destructoid reader says that Marcus Henderson (the man who performed many of the songs in the Guitar Hero games) was on-hand at a recent Guitar Hero II tournament, where he mentioned that Harmonix' new project will be a game that teaches you to play a real guitar.
- Eurogamer has a short interview with Pandemic on the subject of Mercenaries 2. There won't be a deck of 52 in this one, sadly.
PC news:
- Amazon.co.uk has opened pre-orders for Duke Nukem Forever. 3D Realms responds by saying they're "just trying to get your money." God knows 3D Realms has no interest in your money.
- Atari has announced that The Witcher will be published in North America.
- The creators of the LOTR MMO have introduced a founder's program, wherein you can pay $200 up front and never have to pay a monthly subscription fee.
- New screenshots have been released for Frontlines: Fuel of War.
- The PC edition of Resident Evil 4 has already leaked to torrent sites.
Nintendo news:
- This week's new Virtual Console titles are Super Mario World, Vigilante, and Gain Ground.
- Virgin Megastores in the UK are not promising launch PS3s to pre-orderers because they don't want a repeat of the Wii launch, in which they say they didn't get the allocation they were promised. Nintendo denies the claim, saying that all stores were told of their day one allocations six to eight weeks in advance.
- A game based on Zorro is coming to the Wii. Hundred bucks says someone thought "Making that Z with slashes on the Wii would be cool!" and then designed a game around it.
- These magazine scans from Nintendo Dream explain the controls to various Mario Party 8 games. It's in Japanese, but the diagrams with Wii Remote and arrows are fairly self-explanatory.
- GameFly has a product listing for Guilty Gear XX on the Wii. This could very easily be a mistake, so don't take it as gospel yet.
- The voice of Mario, Charles Martinet, has commented a little on Mario Galaxy.
- Best Buy is offering a free $10 gift card with the purchase of two games from the list on their site. It's all DS titles, except for FFVI Advance.
- CodeMasters has finally gotten around to replacing the faulty Bubble Bobble cartridges that featured a bug that kept you from advancing past level 30.
Sony news:
- A Japanese website is beginning to sell hi-def porn movies for download via the PS3 browser.
- EA execs were "disappointed" by PS3 tie-in ratios during the last quarter. Apparently the "eBay effect", as they call it, caught them off guard. I think they're about the only ones who weren't expecting it.
Microsoft news:
- Microsoft says the release date for Mass Effect accidentally posted to Xbox.com last week was "incorrect."
- Rare is aiming to release a Live Arcade game based on new IP later this year.
- Forbes reports that the marketing for Lost Planet cost $20 million.
- It appears that Burger King is dropping the prices of the King games to $.99.
- Which makes it all the more entertaining that EB is selling used BK games for $7.99.
