Newspost for 04-06-07
Observation of the day: Fable had its flaws.. lots and lots of flaws... but the Oakvale theme sure is pretty.
Industry and multi-console news:
- Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, the original voices of Optimus Prime and Megatron, have been signed on to reprise their roles in the Transformers game. They weren't good enough for the movie, apparently, but they can be in the game.
- Ubisoft has a new website up that is supposedly a teaser for the next Tom Clancy game, but all I see is tiny black text on grey backgrounds and audio that won't shut up and then I realize I don't care what the plot for the next Tom Clancy game is and then I wander off and go look out a window. However, if this is your thing, there's a post on Ubisoft's forum that compiles the various bits of information people have been able to pull out of it.
- In case you haven't seen it, the US Army is now aiming their ads directly at gamers, showing two dudes playing some tactical military game when someone in the game taps on the screen and asks them if they want to "take it to the next level." Generally, when "taking it to the next level" means getting my ass shot, I say no.
- Rose McGowan says she played House of the Dead 2 obsessively until her dog peed on her Dreamcast and "blew it up."
- The US Department of Education has issued a report saying that educational software has "no significant impact on student performance."
PC news:
- GameTap has plans to add Sega Saturn games to the service later this year. Right now they have Bug! up as a teaser. I find this interesting because the Saturn is notoriously tough to emulate. Obviously they'll have Sega on their side to help out, but I still wonder if they'll just stick to games with pre-existing PC ports (Bug! was available for Windows too).
- Ubisoft has announced Heroes of Might and Magic V: Tribes of the East. It's a stand-alone product that concludes the current storyline.
- Adventure game classic (to some people, anyway) The Neverhood may be turned into a feature film.
Nintendo news:
- Gamespot will be airing a live, four hour Super Paper Mario gameplay session at 4 PM EST.
- There are stories rolling around about how the Wii might get some kind of external storage device due to this "new" deal with eSol, but as Joystiq notes, it's not new at all. Nor does it confirm anything.
- Capcom has opened the official Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles website, which contains the first footage of the game.
- The developers of Scarface have said that they're "amazed we're allowed to make a game like this" for the Wii.
- Pheonix Wright will have a cameo in Ace Attorney 4.
- Game Watch has screenshots of Panel de Pon on the DS.
- Sega has announced the development of Touch Darts for the DS.
- The Wii edition of Big Brain Academy has been officially named Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree. There was nothing we could do, he had Wii Degree burns all over his body.
Sony news:
- Sony is beginning a new marketing campaign called "Dude, get your own" that aims the PSP at the teen market. With a slogan they stole from Cheez-Its, apparently.
- A video on YouTube demonstrates three PS3s being used to do real time ray tracing.
- Capcom is making a fighting action game based on the Fate/Stay Night series for the PSP. The odd bit is that Fate/Stay Night is an eroge (erotic game).
- Now Sony is back to saying Warhawk will be available as a download or on Blu-ray.
- Super Rub A Dub has been added to the Euro Playstation Store.
- VoIP company Jajah has made their service PSP compatible.
- The Sony Style store has stopped carrying the 20 gig PS3. Joystiq contacted someone at the site, who responded: "We're not getting any more. You could maybe go out and find one." Helpful!
- The Playstation Museum has updated with a few prototype screenshots of Blue Brothers 2000 for the PSX. It was never completed, and we're all probably better off.
Microsoft news:
- People from Microsoft have complained that information leaks (like the months of Elite rumors) are counter-productive because "they don't have any context."
- Tenchu Z has been narrowed down to a summer release window.
- According to Joystiq, some people are having problems with their Guitar Hero II 360 controllers.
Comments
Peter Cullen is actually voicing Optimus Prime in the film.
Mr. Smith (Hugo Weaving) is doing Megatron.

My GH2 controller is working fine. At this point I'm wondering how many people are experiencing problems due to having the guitar slanted when starting up songs, holding down buttons when plugging it in and not calibrating their HDTV for lag.
Obviously a bunch of them are screwed up, but some people seem to be freaking themselves out over it almost to the point that it seems psychosomatic.

Fate/Stay Night is also a sexless and dull anime that was adapted from the eroge of the same name. Stop me when it sounds familiar: A highschool boy is drawn into a life-or-death game of magical swordplay in modern-day Tokyo when his latent supernatural powers begin to manifest. Also, he has a crush on King Arthur? I really don't know.
Frankly, I hope they're using the porn as source material. Only titties can save us now.
