- Another teaser site (they seem to be all the rage these days) is up for a game called Spider-Man: Friend of Foe.
- Rock Band will be using a controller modelled after the Fender Stratocaster.
- The trademark news from a few days ago was right: Square Enix is planning a new RPG called The Last Remnant. Before you get too excited, keep in mind it's being directed by one of the game planners behind The Bouncer.
- 1up asks some prominent game industry figures to pick their desert island game.
- A new developer video interview for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars has been released.
- Treasure is currently hiring staff for a new action game.

- 2 Old 2 Play has an article on the impact of being a gaming parent.
- If you haven't yet experienced it first-hand, Ars Technica is here to break the news that Spider-Man 3 has some really ugly/scary character models.
PC news:
- A 1.2 patch for Medieval II: Total War has been released.
- Giant dorks have recreated FFVII's Midgar in Second Life. I will warn you ahead of time that this article contains one (1) image of a furry skunk or something in the game dressed up like Sephiroth and Goddamn why doesn't someone just fire Linden Labs into the sun.
Nintendo news:
- The state of DS shortages is still such in Japan that this beat up DS with no box, strap, stylus, or anything else is still being sold for almost $100.
- IGN's Matt Cassamassina says that a fighting franchise that had an entry on the Gamecube is coming to the Wii as "some kind of crazy ass adventure game." One naturally thinks of Soul Calibur, but who knows.
Sony news:
- Square Enix has opened a teaser page for a new PSP title called Final Fantasy Dissidia.
- A video of Sony's infamous God of War II press party is online. It's professionally produced, not some sneaky shaky cam thing, so don't expect a stunning expose.
- Eurogamer has an interview about Wipeout Pulse.
- Amazon has Call of Duty 3 on the PS2 marked down to $14.99.
Microsoft news:
- Bungie says Halo 3's cinematics are much better than Halo 2's, admitting that for the second game they "simply didn't have the time or resources to make the cinematics the way we wanted them to be. They were compromised by deadlines and resources and while the results were heroic and herculean achievements of hard work and talent, they simply weren't as polished or pretty as we wanted them to be."
- Some people are angry at Major Nelson for mocking consumers for wanting the new Gears maps free, and then taking a little shot at Epic for wanting them to be offered free. Bottom line: Company employees should not use podcasts to vent their frustrations.
- Game Head will be airing a special Halo 3 episode this week.
Comments
I think people have to get over the map thing. MS covered most of the cost of the game, the first pack was free, the patch with the additional gameplay stuff was free (they could have offered that new mode as a purchase if they really desired to).
Epic is in a position where making those maps would basically cost them nothing and MS would have to front all of it, including the bandwidth. I don't know why anyone is expecting MS to cooperate with that.
Not to be an apologist for them, but I just think it's stupid. I don't know that the comment on Major Nelson's podcast (I was under the impression a guest said that, not Major Nelson?) is unwarranted in that sense.
Personally, I can handle waiting until September when they are free. At least there's a compromise ther elol.
