While this video is Japanese, you shouldn't have any trouble figuring it out. It's a succession of pie charts showing how the Japanese console market has changed over the years from 1996 to 2007. The jump from 2005 to 2006 is kind of scary.

- IGN has turned 10, and to celebrate they've opened IGN Retro, a new section dedicated to old games.
- The official Japanese site for Street Fighter IV is live, though there isn't much to it that you haven't already seen. You can read translations of the character bios here.
- Roger Avary has been arrested for suspected manslaughter. This is game news because he wrote the script for the Silent Hill movie as well as the upcoming Return to Castle Wolfenstein movie, but he also co-wrote Beowulf and Pulp Fiction, among other things.
- This week's Rock Band content will be a Sweet cover, a Monkees cover, and a Blink 182 song.
- College Hoops 2K9 has been cancelled due to a breakdown in negotiations with license holders.
- Maybe there was something to the predictions of mass resignations after all. Alex Navarro is leaving Gamespot.
- The existence of a Rock Band stage kit has been leaked by Gamespot.
- Epic is expanding its facilities to house testers.
- British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has expressed concern about violent video games, particular ones involving... knives. “There are boundaries you cannot cross — and one is this country’s zero tolerance on knives."
- Next Generation has an editorial on the damaging effects of the used game market.
- Gamasutra examines the game design lessons to be learned from 20 mysterious games.
- Eidos parent company SCi continues to have trouble as investors demand the resignation of top executives.

- Actor John Rhys-Davies has called Hollywood's infatuation with games "a disaster." Mind you this guy is currently starring in Uwe Boll's Dungeon Siege movie, which he admits he did because his house was still under construction and he needed something to do.
- Racketboy presents a beginner's guide to the Game Gear.
- EGM's rumor column suggests there may be a U2-themed Guitar Hero game in the works.
- The voice actress for the Red Queen in Umbrella Chronicles says that she also did voice work for Jill in an as of yet unnamed Resident Evil arcade game in Japan.
- India's parliment is considering banning violent video games.
PC and mobile news
New content: Depths of Peril 1.006 patch, Dawn of War Soulstorm demo
- The source code for the original SimCity has been released under GPLv3.
- Sudden Strike 3 has been dated for March 10.
- Team Fortress 2 will be getting a "large-scale modification to the core of the game" in the near future, along with two new maps.
- Zombie shooter Left 4 Dead has been delayed until summer.
- Techspot runs some tests to see if the Crysis 1.1 patch improved performance.
- The Star Trek Online MMO is kind of screwed. It's not cancelled, but P2 Entertainment has bailed on development and tossed the content and license to some other developer. Unfortunately, they didn't also hand over the code they had already completed.
Nintendo news
New Virtual Console titles: Pac Attack and Riot Zone
- Denise Kaigler has been announced as Perrin Kaplan's replacement at Nintendo.
- Fresh from the sterling success of Lair, Factor 5 is working on a Wii game.
- The newest issue of Nintendo Power contains a seven page preview of BioWare's DS Sonic RPG, called Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.
- Jeux-France is reporting that Blue Dragon DS has been delayed indefinitely.
- It's looking very likely that Sam and Max are coming to the Wii.
- An ex-Midway employee claims that he came up with the Wii remote/nunchuck idea years ago.
- A GBA SP signed by Miyamoto is currently up on Ebay with no bids.
- A video has popped up on the Internet, supposedly showing New Duck Hunt. Given that the shaky-cam footage is prefaced with "this is apparently New Duck Hunt that I found in my dad's desk," treat this with a healthy amount of suspicion.
- Amazon's deal of the day is Battalion Wars 2 for $32.99.

New media: Lost Planet trailer
- Gamestop has told IGN that they're canceling pre-orders on Gran Turismo Mobile, as the game has been cancelled. Kazunori Yamauchi recently said that Gran Turismo Portable was still in the works, but I can't tell if that's meant to be the same game as Mobile or not.
- Sony has announced a new PS3 bundle for the UK.
- The PS3 version of Lost Planet will be getting an exclusive character.
- David Jaffe talks about what's been added to the PS2 port of Twisted Metal: Head On.
- PSP homebrew firmware 3.80 has been released.
- These video tutorials show you how to install mods in your PS3 copy of Unreal Tournament 3.
- Target is selling Assassin's Creed for $38 through the 19th.

- Bungie gives a little bit of detail on one of their new Halo 3 maps.
- The people behind the new Hummer HX concept SUV say that any similarity to Halo's Warthog is just a coincidence.
