Monday Newspost for May 26, 2008

As expected, there's not a lot of news around today. Instead, here is one of those crappy 15-in-1 plug-and-play game controller things, except this one's branded by Polaroid.
Industry and multi-console news
- This week's Rock Band content is The Cars' 1978 self-titled debut album.
- N'Gai Croal writes about the need for game preview writers to write what they see. "As much as we journalists may be tempted to contextualize a less than stellar preview (it’s pre-alpha code; the build is two months old; we’ll fix that pop-up), the wisest course of action is to write what you see and say what you think – not what you think you should think, if you catch my drift."
- Square Enix saw a significant drop in revenue during fiscal 2007.
- Brett Ratner has declared that he will be doing movies based on games. He plans on using some commercials he made for Guitar Hero to serve as an in to give him "access to the Activision brain."
PC and mobile news
- Based on a recent shareholders conference, some are speculating that Final Fantasy Agito XIII has been cancelled. That's the mobile phone one.
- Engadget responds to Nolan Bushnell's claims that the TPM chip will end piracy. "The TPM chip -- what's been on motherboards for years, that apparently Bushnell just found out about?"
- Gamasutra has an extract from a book on the history of computer RPGs, covering the silver age of the genre.
- Age of Conan has hit the 400,000 player mark.
Nintendo news
New WiiWare titles: Dr. Mario Online Rx, Family Table Tennis
New Virtual Console titles: City Connection, Metal Slug
- A session from the Games for Health Conference looked at the glut of DS learning games in Japan. "While the average DS title sales are over 100,000, the median sales are only 9,000."
Sony news
- Version 1.7.0 of ePSXe, one of the strongest Playstation 1 emulators, has been released.
- Evidence is appearing in retail outlets that Playstation Network cards are on the way.
- GamePro claims the MGS4 90 minute cutscene rumor isn't true. (thanks Raton-Laveur)
- Amazon's deal of the day is Pursuit Force for $12.99. They also have Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne for $39.99. That's not actually a sale, but given that I paid $70 for the game new back before this reprint was issued, it's a good deal all the same.
Microsoft news
- Chris Kohler has an opinion piece decrying Microsoft's plan to delist Live Arcade games.
- On that note, Xbox 360 Fanboy has a list of all 360 titles with a sub-65 Metacritic score that could possibly be subject to delisting. It would depend on their conversion rate, and those numbers aren't publicly available.
