Industry and multi-console news
New media: Tomb Raider: Underworld trailer, Bionic Commando screenshots and trailer
- Guitar Hero World Tour will come with a pair of Jimi Hendrix songs on the disc: Purple Haze and Wind Cries Mary. I'd prefer Hey Joe, myself, but I guess that's what DLC is for.
- This week's new Rock Band tracks will be a three-pack from Nine Inch Nails and two from Shinedown.
- The fans weren't the only ones disappointed with E3. Execs from several game companies have criticized the event as well, with Ubisoft's president calling it "terrible" and EA's John Riccitiello saying "I hate E3 like this.” Edge has an article on the subject, suggesting that E3 needs to "change or die."
- So it looks like Alan Wake will be shown at the Tokyo Game Show? Maybe?
- Sega of America president Simon Jeffery says they have "tried to make Sega of America feel like it's not a Japanese company." Lest you think this is kind of mean, he says this was Sega of Japan's idea.
- Design Lesson 101 looks at what can be learned from Metal Gear.
- Mad Catz showed off their Rock Band 2 peripherals at E3.
- A forum poster has a scan from a Wal-Mart release list that shows Armored Core for Answer coming to America (with the slight name revision of Armored Core The Answer) on September 16.
- Sega will be building a theme park in the Dubai Mall.
- Destructoid has a gallery of art from this year's Into the Pixel exhibition.
- Some game store workers have posted photos of Soul Calibur's character select screen and menus. Kratos isn't one of the characters.
- Sega says they started courting the former Clover team as soon as their fragmentation from Capcom began.
PC and mobile news
- An official patch from Ubisoft for Rainbow Six Vegas 2 turns out to be a stolen no-CD fix from a pirate group.
- The number of creatures created in Spore now exceeds the number of animal species on Earth.
Nintendo news
New media: Dead Rising screenshots, Sam and Max screenshots and trailer
- Miyamoto says not showing games for the hardcore crowd is an intentional choice by Nintendo. "Now we look at more … an opportunity for us to introduce new concepts and new types of play that we intend to bring to the broader audience, particularly because of the media that gathers at E3 now."
- Wii Sports Resort producer Katsuya Eguchi says the game's jetski mode will "surpass Waverace 64 in depth." He is in the right position to make the claim, as Eguchi was the director of Waverace 64.
- SouthPeak will bring Roogoo to the Wii and DS.
- The first custom firmware for the Wii has been released. Also, a homebrew group has posted a picture of what they claim is a PSP emulator for the Wii (though it runs very slowly at the moment).
Sony news
New PS1 title: Rayman

New demo: Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm
- Several people noticed that Wipeout HD wasn't shown at E3. When asking Sony about it, Eurogamer was told that the game has a "specific technical problem" that's holding it up, while Joystiq was told it's still in the works to add "extra features." Maybe the extra feature is making it playable.
- A former technical advisor for the first Metal Gear Solid has been charged with trying to ship holographic gunsights to Japan illegally.
- Metal Gear Online's Gene Expansion has caused numerous technical issues and resulted in certain features being shuttered temporarily.
- There's a rumor that Sony is going to require some unique trophies for multiplatform games, meaning they can't all be the same as the achievements in the 360 version.
